A belated birthday drabble for keiliss :)

Safe

I stand alone on the shore, looking out at the harbour as the waves crash against the rocks. The sights and sounds are familiar and soothing and I relax as they fill my senses. The wind catches my hair, blowing it around my face and into my eyes. It does not trouble me, though; I am well used to it, as were you. We stood here many evenings, you and I, watching as the sun set over Lindon and wondering what the next day would bring.

My thoughts wander as I think on how much has changed since the last time we were here – more than I had ever thought possible. Good and evil have both touched me so deeply that it is hard to see if what has happened was for the best or not. Was the price we paid too high for what was achieved? I do not know, nor do I know if I ever will.

One thing I do know, though - I no longer need to wonder about what tomorrow holds. That which I thought and worried about the most have come to be irrelevant. You are safe now and will no longer be subject to wars and unequal battles. I know well that you have peace where you are now, a gentle quiet that allows endless time to think and reflect, without the weight of the world on your shoulders. He who now keeps you will guard you always until the time comes for you to begin again.
