“No,
absolutely not.” Maedhros shook his head and looked firmly
at Celegorm. He was not going to allow such insanity.
His
brother’s response was to glare angrily and Maedhros
saw the familiar temper spark into life.
“It
is too great a risk,” he tried to explain. “If
we were caught the consequences would be dire.” He shuddered
to think of them.
Yet
Celegorm did not reply, only continuing to glare at Maedhros
with a look of pure scorn on his face, causing the elder of
the two to begin to shift uncomfortably. “Celegorm…
please stop this.” Maedhros pleaded.
Celegorm
considered the words for a moment, long enough for Maedhros
to find a spark of hope that his brother might actually be
reasonable for once. However, it was not to be.
“No.”
He said finally. “It is not a risk. I am careful, no
one has to know. You are a coward who is scared to make anyone
happy.” He sniffed and Maedhros crumbled.
Sighing
deeply, Maedhros reached into the box and handed the small
fluffy rabbit to his little brother. “Fine, fine.”
He huffed. “Just… take good care of it and keep
yourselves out of trouble.”
Beaming,
Celegorm hugged the young rabbit to his chest and the animal
nuzzled up to him. “I will!” he chirped. “You’ll
see!” Grinning, he ran off, to find his new pet some
food and a place to sleep.
Maedhros
watched him go, resignation on his face. Eru, his father was
going to kill him. He really had to learn how to say no.
